Graduation Ceremony for the First Semester of Cross-Cultural Program by UiTM Global Study Center

The very first semester of UiTM Global Study Center’s Cross-cultural program, organized by ACEC and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) from August 16 to 27, 2021, was successfully completed. The program was designed to help postgraduate students from China to better understand the academic environment, culture and customs of Malaysia, understand how to communicate effectively with their supervisors and university staff, experience the local English-speaking environment in Malaysia, and to learn basic Malay language. The first semester of present cross-cultural program was developed by professors from UiTM and experts from ACEC. The program covered introduction to the basic history of Malaysia, the postgraduate education system in Malaysia, Malaysian food and beverage, traditional costumes and festivals, religion and beliefs, etiquette and manners, and basic Malay language lessons. Lecturers always have interactive sessions with the students during the program. Students are encouraged to share and communicate cultural differences from this student are able to cope and have a better understanding with the cultural differences during their studies here in Malaysia. Also, it can benefit them to have a better communication with their supervisors and universities. As an important part of the Global Study Center and UITM collaboration series, present cross-cultural program allows international students to learn more about Malaysian culture, have a better accustomed to the study environment in Malaysia especially in their first semester, and support them to be able to start their research projects more efficiently. In the second semester, students will attend the second phase of the cross-cultural program, where UITM’s lecturers will provide students with more cross-cultural and academic transition support in the research process.

For the first semester of present cross-cultural program, we have 50 PhD and Master students from 8 different Universities in China attended the classes and joined the closing ceremony. Let’s reviewed the fruitful and happy moments we have in this very first semester of cross-cultural program by UiTM Global Study Center and looking forward for the next upcoming semester!

UITM Global Study Center 跨文化学术交流第一学期课程结业典礼

ACEC与马来西亚玛拉工艺大学（UITM）双方于2021年8月16日至27日合作举办为期2周的的UITM Global Study Center跨文化学术交流第一学期课程顺利结业。该课程旨在帮助来自中国的研究生了解马来西亚的学术环境和文化和风俗，掌握与导师及学校工作人员顺畅交流技巧，并体验马来西亚当地英语环境，学习基础马来语。课程由玛拉工艺大学和ACEC的专家共同研发，第一学期课程包含了让学生了解马来西亚的历史、高等教育系统、马来西亚饮食、传统服装与节日、宗教与信仰、礼节和礼仪以及基础马来语课程。上课期间，导师们通过与学生互动，分享交流中马两国文化差异，并帮助学生解决在读期间如何应对文化差异出现的问题，确保学生能够顺利与导师和学院进行有效沟通。作为UITM Global Study Center 合作系列课程中的重要组成部分，跨文化交流课程能让留学生通过了解马来西亚文化，在第一学期更好的适应在马来西亚的学习环境，快速高效地启动研究计划。在研究生第二学期同学们将参加第二阶段课程，由UITM的导师为学生提供更多研究过程中的跨文化和学术转换解决方案。

本期合作培养班的同学分别来自8所中国大学，第一学期由两个班级组成，共计50余位博士和硕士研究生参加。毕业典礼上，学校领导和同学们以及UITM玛拉工艺大学的导师一起回顾共同渡过的这段充实而快乐的时光，大家期待下学期继续深入学习、交流。
