ACEC Association Successfully Conducted the First Online Session of Elementary Mandarin Course for Local Higher Education Institutions

China-Malaysia cultural exchange increased year by year. Mandarin has become an important language that non-Chinese Malaysians have the urge to learn. In order to enhance the understanding of Mandarin, to lay a foundation for future learning and to promote exchanges and cooperation between local and Chinese tertiary institutions, ACEC constructed the first session of online Elementary Mandarin Course for free on 6 March for four local higher education institutions, namely Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) and International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (I-CATS).

The Elementary Mandarin Course is a 9-week class that meets for one and a half hours once per week. The course received an overwhelming response from the non-Chinese community. They showed strong interest in learning Mandarin. The course reached it capacity of students soon after the registration started. Students who were not able to register for the course had to wait for the next session.

The course placed emphasis on teacher-student interaction. Teacher invited two student representatives to demonstrate when practising vocalisation and the online classroom climate was lively and positive. Students were highly motivated and smart. They were able to understand immediately after listening to the explanations. Teacher also assigned homework to the students so that they can do their revision.

With the cooperation of all parties involved, around 500 students attended the course. The first course meeting ended perfectly. Students are looking forward to moving on to the second week of online learning.

马来西亚与中国的文化交流日趋紧密，汉语也成为马来西亚非华裔同胞迫切学习的一门语言。为了增进对汉语的了解、为日后的学习打下基础、促进本地与中国高等学府的交流与合作，本会于3月6日下午为本地四所高等学府，玛拉工艺大学(UiTM)、马来西亚国立大学(UKM)，砂拉越技术发展中心(PPKS)以及砂拉越国际科技大学学院(I-CATS)，免费举办了首期的初级汉语线上课程。

本课程为期9周，每周上课一小时半。课程得到了热烈响应，非华裔同胞们对学习汉语有着浓厚的兴趣，在开放报名不久后马上就迎来了额满的状况。没赶上报名的学生只能等待下次开课了。

课程十分注重与学生的互动。在练习发声时，老师更是邀请了两位学生代表进行示范，课堂气氛活跃。学生们的积极性很高，认真学习，也很聪明，听完讲解就能马上理解。课后，老师也会给学生布置作业，便于学生复习。

在各方的配合下，约有五百名学生参与了本次的首期课程，第一周的辅导课完美收工。学生们兴致勃勃地期待着进入第二周的学习活动。学生代表正示范韵母的发音
